Here is a quick guide to help understand the ways to earn participation points in my class. Participation is vital for pick up the correct pronunciation and losing the timidity that is natural in learning a new language. A good participation in my class is easy to earn and fun. Here are eight of the ways a student can earn points:
Volunteer to answer questions that I will ask in class.
Be involved in group exercises (using French).
Be actively involved in classroom exercises.
Volunteer for something the teacher needs done.
Sing along in class
Volunteer to read
Volunteer to answer HW questions on the board
Volunteer to help the teacher coordinate a classroom activity
The teacher will also randomly give points if a class has had a particularly good week or if a student does something above and beyond the norm. These points will be at the teacher’s discretion.
The participation form will be used to track the accumulation of credits for participation. Each time the student actively participates in class, the student will put the date in one of the boxes. There are 100 boxes and each one will give the student a point toward there final grade for participation. For example, if a student fills out 98 boxes, the student participation grade will be 98. As mentioned in the syllabus, the participation grade is worth 10% of the final grade.
The participation sheets will be collected each day and randomly checked for accuracy. The students are expected to be honest and promote honestly in the class by their actions by accurately recording their participation in class.
