ROCKS Rocks are probably a familiar sight to you. You see them all around you in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Rocks are the building blocks of Earth. They form beaches, mountains, the ocean floor, and all the other parts of the Earth’s crust. To make sense of the enormous diversity of rocks in the world, scientists have organized them into three groups according to how they form: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary.
