Hopewell Middle School Community-Based Instruction Syllabus 2008-2009 Teacher Name: Stephanie Sosebee Course Title: Community-Based Instruction Paraprofessional: Amanda Mathis & Larry Walker Grade Level: 6-8 1. Title of Textbook: Georgia Professional Standards Fulton County Community-Based Instruction Curriculum Other supplemental materials will be used in addition to these in order to provide appropriate modifications/accommodations related to specific goals and objectives for each Individualized Education Plan (IEP). 2. Course Description Community-based instruction is the concept of a classroom without walls. Specifically, teachers strive to instruct students with various disabilities in both the school environment and the community. Students will receive instruction in various academic areas as well as instruction on basic self-care, fine/gross motor skills, community skills, and communication skills. Students are taught in real-life hands-on settings. 3. Instructional Areas Goals and objectives determine specific instructional areas: Functional Math Functional English Community Self-Help Leisure Skills Pre-Vocational Skills Daily Living Fine/Gross Motor 4. Grading Scale Grading scale will be based upon progress on IEP objectives and benchmarks mastered. Periodic probes will be used to determine if goals are being mastered at a progressive rate. Updated goals and objectives are sent home every 9 weeks. 5. Teacher/Parent Communication Communication will be made daily from school to home. Notebooks/agendas are provided and may be written in by the parent and teacher. Please initial after reach response to ensure the note was read. In addition, communication will be made via e-mails, phone calls, and conferences on an as needed basis. |
