Course Description:
This nine week curriculum focuses on demonstrating proper keyboarding techniques, computer components, usage of word processing, and demonstrating proper care and handling of hardware and software. Other Microsoft software will be introduced.
Course Outline:
Prepare equipment Demonstrate use of equipment Introduce alphabetic, number and symbol characters Identify correct finger usage Demonstrate keyboarding techniques and posture Identify computer components Create edit and format documents
Homework, Grading, and Communication Expectations:
Since textbooks are not issued in this class, students will not have regular homework assignments. They may have work to complete that was not completed in class or extra credit. Students will be given appropriate deadlines for turning in assignments. Exams will be 50% of grade with productions being 50% (daily work and projects). Sharing work will result in a “0”. All students will receive a progress report at 4 ½ weeks. If a student drops below a 70 after the 4 ½ grading period, a parent/guardian will be notified. Scheduled Help Sessions:
I am available on Mondays after school from 3:45 pm until 4:45 pm. Please allow 24 hour notice so that I might ensure availability of work stations, since I teach 6 classes per day via computers.
Reminders and Rules:
No electronic equipment, CDs, or disks from home are allowed. No eating or drinking in the computer lab. This includes gum and candy. Students should follow the behavior guidelines: (1) come to class prepared, (2) respect yourself, others, the school, and the learning environment, (3) be safety conscious.
