C.  BEHAVIOR IN THE ORCHESTRA ROOM

 

All orchestra students are responsible for reading and obeying all school rules and all rules in the FULTON COUNTY CODE OF CONDUCT.  All of the above rules can be found in the Hopewell Middle School Student Agenda.  Listed below are some basic rules regarding student conduct in the Orchestra Room and when representing HMS as a member of the orchestra:

 

1.           Raise your hand to speak.

2.           All talking and playing of instruments will stop when the orchestra director is on the podium.               All attention should be    focused on the director.  Listen carefully to all directions.

3.           Do not talk or practice during tuning.  Each section should wait until directed to tune open              strings.

4.           Keep all hands, feet, and objects to yourself.  Horseplay will not be allowed.

5.           The use of any obscene language or gesture is inappropriate of a HMS Orchestra member and              will be addressed immediately.

6.           Upon arrival to class, students should unpack their instruments and immediately find their as             signed seat.  Students should be sure to check the board for any written assignments and copy t             hem in their agenda. 

7.        Students are responsible for bringing all necessary materials to class, rehearsal, and

             performances.  These materials include the following: instrument, music, pencil, agenda, etc.              (Please   refer to the Orchestra Supply List in the handbook)

8.           Students should remain seated during rehearsals unless they have permission to do otherwise.

9.           Students are not allowed to wander the building prior to after-school rehearsals or performances.               Students should proceed to the assigned rehearsal or performance area and immediately check-             in with the director or chaperone.

10.         Proper maintenance of instruments is essential.  Students should clean individually owned and/or school owned instruments on a regular basis.  Each student must also assume responsibility for any necessary repairs to his/her instrument.

11.        Food, drink, gum, and candy will not be permitted in the orchestra room, rehearsal area, or

             during performances at any time.

12.         Orchestra students should be respectful of the director, other faculty members, chaperones,              substitute teachers, orchestra guests, and other students.

13.         Only positive attitudes are allowed in the orchestra room!

14.         Be truthful and honest at all times.

15.         Please show pride in your school by cleaning up all trash and clutter in the orchestra room,              storage room, and any other areas used by the orchestra.

16.         Only members of the orchestra are allowed in the orchestra room.  Please do not bring your              friends in the room to visit. 

17.        Students are not allowed to use or borrow another student’s instrument or equipment.  This will        help to ensure that all equipment stays in proper working order. 

18.         Students should label their instrument and other belongings with the following information:

             Student’s Name, Address, Phone, School, and Orchestra Director’s Name

19.         All belongings (book bags, textbooks, folders, cases, etc.) should be placed under the student’s              chair or in their assigned area during rehearsals.

20.         ***All orchestra students are responsible for helping set up and tear down equipment before and after all performances.  Please plan on helping stack chairs and stands for concerts.***

21.         Students are welcome in the director’s office to visit and chat.  However, no student should be in              the office when the  director is away.
