Q: What will I be learning in Mrs. Giltman’s math class?

A: In this class you will learn a variety of math concepts, including the following: integers (positive and negative numbers), expressions, equations, linear relationships, data interpretation, geometry transformations, and geometric constructions.

Q: How do I get make-up work?

A: Assignments for the week are posted on the wall by the door.  Check the day(s) you were absent to see what content was missed.  Any worksheets missed will be available under the calendar in the file folders.  You have the same amount of days you were absent to complete the assignment and turn it in for credit.  After that, it will be either late or a zero.  It is a good idea to get a friend’s phone number or email address from the class to check what work you missed in case of an absence.

Q: How do I leave the room for the bathroom or to my locker?A:   Please do your best to go to the restroom in between classes.  You may only leave to use the restroom in an emergency.  Fill out a pass in your agenda and ask for permission for it to be signed.  If you leave something in your locker may choose to go get it but will receive a strike.  If you receive three strikes you will have to serve a private detention.

Q: What if I do not have my class materials?

A: You may choose to go to your locker or borrow supplies but will receive a strike.

Q: What supplies do I need for this class?

A: You will need a 2”  binder with 4 dividers, notebook paper, a pens, and pencils.  Other supplies that are helpful include a pencil pouch, colored pencils, a hand held pencil sharpener and a notebook 3-hole punch.

Q: What do I need to bring to class?

A: It is expected that you bring your notebook (with the supplies listed above except for colored pencils), agenda, and pencil(s) to class every day.  Extra supplies that are needed for class will be posted outside my door.  Please check outside my door every morning so that you are prepared for that day’s class.

Q: How do I set up my notebook?

A:  Your notebook needs to have 4 dividers, labeled with the following headings:

Mad Minute/Warm-Up, for class starters

Investigations/ class work

HW, short for homework

Notes/Vocabulary, to keep a running glossary of the y      year’s terms

Q: How will I be graded?

A: Class work and homework assignments will be checked for completion.  It is expected that you correct these with a colored pen when we review answers in class.  You will receive 20 points each day for completed homework for a total of 100 points a week.  Tests, quizzes, and projects will be graded for accuracy.  Your grade is calculated according to the following percentages:

NO GUM

Q: How are these rules enforced?

A: The Seventh Grade Discipline is based on the 3 Ds: Disrespect, Defiance, and/or Denying others the opportunity to learn.  If you break any of the three Ds you will first receive a verbal warning.  If you continue to act up you will receive a pink slip and your parents will be contacted.  If the behavior still continues you will receive a detention.  The next step you will receive another detention.  The final step is an office referral.  This discipline cycle continue throughout each of your classes

You will receive a strike if you are tardy for class, leave materials in your locker, or are not prepared for class.  If you receive three strikes then you will serve a private detention at 7:45am in my room D110.
