Dear 8th Grade Singers and Parents,
I am writing to encourage you to continue your participation in the Choral Program at Milton High School. Milton High has a long standing tradition of excellent choral music and I am honored to be the Director of Choirs at such a fine school. The program includes four choirs - two women’s choirs, a men’s chorus, and a mixed ensemble. I also teach Advanced Placement Music Theory which is for upper-class musicians only. The incoming freshmen will be divided and placed into two different choirs. All young ladies will be placed in Treble Chorus and all young men will be placed into Men’s Chorus. The other two ensembles, Chorale and Women’s Select, are auditioned and not open to freshman, however, I am planning to visit Hopewell in the spring and allow anyone who made All-State Chorus to audition for these two ensembles. This is of course not a guarantee but at least a chance to be considered for the top ensembles at Milton. I have talked to many parents and students that have run into scheduling problems in the past. To help with this there is a mock schedule on the back of this letter. It shows that it is possible to sing in chorus all four years and still fill all the academic requirements for Milton High School. You should also know that I have spoken to all the counselors and they agree that those who wish to be involved in the Fine Arts are placed in those classes first and the rest of the schedule is built around Chorus. These are exciting times for the Milton Choral Department and we want you to be a part of the fun. I am working on long range plans that include travel in and out of state and I am even working on a possible European Tour for the future! As always we will continue to sing for festivals, sporting events, and in the community. Just so you have a little more information about me, I am a graduate of Shorter College in Rome, GA with a Bachelor of Music Education and I graduated from Louisiana State University (GEAUX TIGERS!!!) in May 2007 with a Master of Music in Choral Conducting. Prior to my LSU experience I taught 6 years of Junior High/Middle School in Carrollton, GA. My first year at Milton has been a success and I am looking forward to the opportunity to get to work with you next year.
