French News

The 8th grade French students recently wrote and performed original skits in French taking place in a clothing store.  Students brought clothing and accessory items to use as props.  Skits were presented on Mardi Gras and afterward class members enjoyed traditional King Cake which Madame White prepared. 

 

In one photo, Alec appears wearing the Rex Crown of Mardi Gras since he found the “baby” in his piece of King Cake. Alec and his classmates in Mme Woolheater’s 7th grade French classes enjoyed King Cakes and an interesting film on Carnival in Quebec, Canada.

 

Text Box: 8th grade French and Spanish students were recently treated to visits from native speakers.  Rocio Nelson, a native of Bolivia spoke to Senora Haak’s Spanish classes on the history and customs of Bolivia and Gerssandre Samedi from Haiti shared the history and culture of Haiti with Mme White’s French classes.  Students enjoyed Haitian and Bolivian music, dance, stories and artifacts.  

Text Box: On Friday, March 28, Hopewell French classes hosted a group of middle school students from Guadeloupe.  Along with their teachers there were 32 students who study English participating in a linguistic and cultural exchange here in Atlanta.  Students in Mme Augusta's, Mme White's and Mme Woolheater's classes enjoyed their presentations including songs, dancing and conversation.  It was a great opportunity to meet other Francophone students.         
Text Box: On February 23 Eighth Grade Hopewell World Language students in French and Spanish participated in the annual Fulton Forum competition held at Milton High School. Students were interviewed by a Fulton County World Language teacher and judged on speaking skills. Ratings received:  

Superior: (French) Tommy Ng, Meredith Cantwell, Stephanie Jordan, Santiago Pardo (Spanish) Hallie Bryan, Maggie Brogan, Daniel Boss, Kristy Van Dam

Excellent:  (French) Emily Fong, Jessica Owen (Spanish) Sheehan Hanrahan

Mme White was able to get some good pictures of teachers and students during the crepe making activity.
