January 29, 2010
On Monday, January 25, the Student Council sponsored the first of several fund raising efforts to collect money for the Haiti earthquake victims. "Hats for Haiti" allowed students donating a minimum of $1 to wear hats/caps during the school day. I am proud to announce that more than $1300.00 was donated! We will share information about additional fundraisers in the near future. The American Red Cross is the recipient of all donations.
The eighth grade dance, with a New York City Winter Jam theme, held on Saturday, January 23, was the best ever!! The students looked great and their behavior and expressions of appreciation exceeded our expectations. More than 40 parents were in attendance to help in various ways. Many parents donated candy for the candy store and brought in props and extension cords. A special thank you to Amy Hirschland and Amy Mirran, co-chairs for 8th grade activities; Linnea Henderson, the decorating chair who conceived many of the ideas for the theme; and the Godby family, who designed, built and donated the marquee. Liberty Tax loaned us a Statue of Liberty costume, Philly Pretzel and Brooklyn Joe's gave us great prices on food and the Milton High School art and drama departments sent us talented students to assist with decor to compliment the dance theme. I also want to thank the many dedicated teachers who gave their Saturday night to chaperone the dance.
