September 5, 2007 


Members Present: Cathi Barlow, Tina D’Aversa, Michelle Olsen, Steve Colitz, Laura Commandy, Erin Bolling, Julie Pinckney, and Janice Etscovitz. 

Members Absent: None

1. Call to Order – Cathi Barlow called the meeting to order at 5:10 PM with introductions of committee members. We have two new members this year, Laura Commandy and Michelle Olsen. 

2. Approval of Agenda of: the agenda was accepted as presented.  

3. Approval of Minutes of: motion passed to approve minutes.

4. Old Business –
Check Points – the countywide schedule for the Checkpoints tests was presented, (Reading, Math, Language Arts, Algebra and Geometry.) There will be a Pre Assessment Test at 10-12 weeks, 18 Week Assessment, and Cumulative Post Assessments at 24 – 26 weeks and the CRCT in April. All the Check Points tests were revised over the course of the summer by Fulton County. 
Legislative 
LSAC Parent Elections – elections were held during Curriculum Nights August 27th and 28th. Ms Commandy and Ms Olsen were elected. 
Twins issue – Georgia legislature passed a law stipulating that at parents request twins can be in the same homeroom.
Special Ed Voucher – a synopsis was provided in the packet. Fulton County is not accepting transfers of special education students across school districts; and the other metropolitan school districts are following this plan. However, if your child is within the district, the county will consider a transfer. As Hopewell has room in our program, we are a receiving school for students requesting a transfer within the county. 

5. New Business –
Budget – 
Student Numbers - 1066. 
New Teachers -a list of new faculty has been provided in the packets
Challenges with Ordering – the new system is manageable. Some costs have increased with particular items.  



6. Hopewell Advisory By-law changes 
	Proposed changes to the existing by laws to comply with the new LSAC requirements were discussed at length. Separately, the proposed changes were sent to all LSAC members. 
7. LSAC Meeting Dates for 2007-2008
Oct 3rd, November 7th, December 5th, February 6th, March 5th, April 2nd, May 7th. 
8. Principal Search Process – At this time the position has not been posted, once posted the posting will be for 30 days. Paper review of applications, select candidates chosen for interview by a panel (parents, teachers, Dr. Denmark, HR person). Top three candidates are screened again. Superintendent meets with top candidates, then one is presented to board for approval. 
9. Year of the Middle School Child – due to the late hour, this item has been tabled until the meeting next month. 

10. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:09 PM. Next meeting is October 3rd at 5:00 PM.
