A WEBQUEST Mrs. Escobar's 6th Grade Language Arts Class
Task | Process | Evaluation | Reflection | Conclusion
You have been assigned to an expedition in the Canadian wilderness. The Canadian Geographical Foundation is funding your trip and has assigned you to a group. Before you can go on any trip, you must plan your journey so that you will be prepared for what is to come. Plan on being gone at least two weeks. In your group you will have a wildlife specialist, a geographer, and a survival specialist, and a reporter. Each person in you group will have a different job. I am your pilot and I need your help. Wildlife Specialist: You know all about Canadian wildlife. Geographer: You were brought along because you know a lot about Canadian geography. Survival Specialist: You will keep us alive with your survival skills. Planner: You will plan our trip.
Find your role below. Use the included resources to answer the questions. Take notes on your role. You will use these later to put together a PowerPoint presentation with your group to share with the class. Remember, the more interesting and original your findings, the better! **NOTE: ALL PARAGRAPHS MUST BE TYPED!! Wildlife Specialist: The Arctic & Its Animals- Browse through the following site of animals in the Arctic. Chose three animals and write a one paragraph, 5 sentence description of each. When you finish, take a quiz to see how well you read! Brian did not enjoy the porcupine he ran in to. Read about them here! Brian was afraid of the bear he ran into, but they are not THAT bad!
Geographer: You have learned a lot about the geography of Canada already in social studies, but now it's your turn to show off. You are to write one, five sentence paragraph on each of the three following topics: One other interesting geography topic Remember to include information that might be important to us on our journey into the wild!
Survival Specialist Without you, your group would not make it in the Canadian wilderness. What problems did Brian encounter in the wilderness? Use them as a guideline to give your group some tips before traveling into the wild. You will give five tips, in list form (but using complete sentences) for each of the three following areas: food, shelter, and protection. What will you need to bring with you? Remember, you are taking a small plane with you and there is not much room. Most of what you will need will need will have to be found once you get to your location! This list will be given to the group before you depart for your trip.
Planner You will plan our trip from start to finish. We need a way to get to our location. We don't have too much money, but we can afford a plane ticket. We are all meeting in Atlanta and we need to get to Manitoba. From there, it is your job to come up with a plan to get into the deep wilderness. Remember, for study purposes, we don't want to be near civilization. It is your job to come up with a flight itinerary (flight numbers, times, layovers, etc.) and to tell us where to be when. I hear Delta is offering great rates these days. We want to leave sometime next May for two weeks. You will also need to include one five sentence paragraph about how we will get from Manitoba to the deep wild and back. Once we get back to Atlanta, your job is done!
Of course, a trip funded by the government is not complete without a board review upon return, just to see if it was worth the money and if any new information was gained by spending that money. Below is a link to your RUBRICS...remember the points I have outlined are the ones you are graded on...no more, no less! Please refer to this rubric to pass the boards final exam!
So, you have made it back home alive (I hope)! Your next task is to put together the information from each member of your group to create a PowerPoint presentation to share with the class. Each member must have at least three slides dedicated to his/her topic, plus a title slide. So, for a group of four, you would have thirteen slides. You will share the highlights of what you found. The pilot will judge you on your accomplishments. Just a hint, she likes creativity!
You are done with your project. How did it go? Did you have fun? Should we send your group members on another journey, or should they stay home next time? Take a minute to type one five sentence paragraph about your group. This is your private note to me, your pilot. I have observed, but I want to know what you think.
